10 Best Ways to Stick to your New Year’s Resolution 2023

Posted by DG, Date posted at December 31, 2022

Just in time for the New Year, we’ve gathered the best tips to get your commitment down pat on pushing through with your New Year’s resolution. We all know how it can be a struggle to keep at it especially when there’s some frustration and such.

Read on and get things on the right foot to keep the process of changing for the better and sailing smoothly throughout 2023.

1.  BE PRAGMATIC

Always side on the realistic side of things when it comes to creating New Year’s resolutions. Make your goal attainable and possible. If you’d like to avoid desserts completely, well then, it will be better if the detail to this goal has a bit of a wiggle room. You can instead say you’ll avoid having dessert several days of the week or just have it once a week.

2.  PLOT THINGS OUT

Find some chunk of time to really mull things over. A very well-thought-out plan on what you’d really want to achieve or make changes for 2023 will indeed be a better way to move forward. Have a conversation with yourself and dig deep. If resolutions carry more meaning as to why you’ll do them, your will to carry through will be stronger than you expect.

3.  HAVE READY SOLUTIONS FOR POSSIBLE CHALLENGES

It goes without saying that there can be pitfalls and challenges along the way. If you find yourself thinking of ways to avoid that session at the gym have ready “panic buttons” for it. You can have a gym buddy or a go-to person to talk you through and give you some motivation. There are also podcasts, and books that are free and can guide you through.

4.  WRITE DOWN THE PROS AND CONS

You can opt to create a vision board on the pros and cons. The before and after results of a weight loss goal, the picture of the commercial pizza oven you’ll have once you’ve reached your savings goal would be your first step to finally starting your own business. Keep it nearby all the time. Actually seeing and touching the pictures of your goals creates a stronger motivation to act on this.

5.  FIND A BUDDY TO TOSS IDEAS WITH

It’s not advisable to keep your New Year’s resolution a secret. Bring it out in the world. Be open about it and you’ll find like-minded souls who also share your goals, too. You can then always find support and always renew your sense of purpose on your resolutions for they are shared by one or people who are important to you.

6.  BE AT READY FOR SHORT-TERM GOALS AS WELL AS REWARDS

You can have a leap of faith in end-of-year results or goals. Don’t get so far ahead without creating smaller, step-goals that will lead you to the goal you want to see after 365 days. In this way, you’ll be able to be aware that you can reach this small goal and move forward. You can also reward yourself once these mini-goals are attained — the better to motivate you, even more, to push through with your plans.

7.  KEEP ON TRACKING PROGRESS

As you start and continue your journey towards your New Year’s resolution, document all the small successes. Having yourself be keenly aware that you are making progress — no matter how tiny it can seem — is still a step nearer your goal.

8.  GO EASY ON SLIPS AND CARRY ON

Don’t let the slips get you down. Think of the occasional slip as a necessary lesson to be better at it. After all, just take each day as best as you can and take it one day at a time.

9.  BE AS STUBBORN AS POSSIBLE

Get inspired by the most stubborn folks who were able to conquer their own fears. It didn’t happen overnight. You can also focus on 21-day intervals for small goals. Experts say that it takes 21 days to do a new activity to have it established as a habit and six months to become part of your personality or lifestyle.

10. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE GOAL AND CARRY ON

Just in case you find yourself at a plateau so early into the game, don’t go gloomy and give up. Simply pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start fresh again. Write things down. Keeping a journal will enable you to see your journey in great detail. You will find your way again and back toward your goal.
